Gut envisioned expanding the bank’s reach beyond private wealth management and making it a major player in all areas of financing worldwide.
During his leadership at Credit Suisse from 1971 to 2000, Gut oversaw the acquisition of nearly 20 firms, including First Boston Corp., Bank Leu, Volksbank, Winterthur Insurance Group, the money-management unit of Warburg Pincus, and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette.
