Hedge funds will now face a greater obligation to disclose their short-sale transactions to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), sparking further tension between the industry and Wall Street regulators.

New rules finalized by the SEC will require hedge funds and other major investors to report their gross short positions in specific stocks at the end of each month, along with more regular updates on related trading activity, including derivatives.
The SEC will then consolidate this data from various funds and
