Microsoft invests further billions in ChatGPT’s OpenAI as AI race with Google heats up

Microsoft intends to increase its investment in OpenAI by many billions of dollars, betting its future on the startup and technology that created the well-liked chatbot ChatGPT and paving the way for more rivalry with Google.

Microsoft, which recently proclaimed an AI revolution, is building on a wager it placed on OpenAI almost four years ago. The software behemoth gave the start-up, which Elon Musk and investor Sam Altman co-founded in 2019, $1 billion (€922 million) in 2019. Since then, among other types of assistance, a supercomputer has been developed to run OpenAI’s technology.

In a blog post published on Monday, Microsoft stated, “Today, we are announcing the third phase of our long-term collaboration with OpenAI through a multiyear, multibillion-dollar commitment to accelerate AI advancements and guarantee these benefits are extensively shared with the world.
